Billich Charles

Charles Billich was born in Lovran on the 6th of September 1934. as Karlo Bilić.
Due to disagreements with the government he emigrated to Australia in 1956.
He studied art in Melbourne.
He shows a variety of motives in his paintings, such as portraits, ballet, architecture, theatre, religious motives…
He was the official artist for a large number of sport and cultural events such as Formula 1 in Melbourne 1996., the candidature of Beijing for the Olympic Games and the Olympic Games themselves in Beijing 2008.
His artistic talents were used by the olympic teams of USA and Australia on the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Sydney, Athens and Beijing.
He had art shows in New York, Beijing, Tokyo, Rome, Hong Kong, London, Moscow, Melbourne, Sydney, Zagreb, Lovran…
His paintings reside in museums and galleries all over the world, for example in the Vatican, the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Red Cross Museum and UN building in Geneva, the building of the Japanese parliament, the Shaolin temple in China…
He received a great number of awards, including the title of honorary citizen of Atlanta, honorary doctorate of the American Sports Academy, awards in Australia, Italy, China…
He has had several books written about him, as well as postal stamps in China which had motives from his paintings on them.
