Jozo Janda was born 17.11.1911. in Kaptol, Slavonska Pozega. Primary and secondary school he attended in Nova Gradiska and Zagreb. Janda graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1938. in the class of prof. Vladimir Becic. After the war he worked as a set designer in the early films, and in the theatre until 1956. After that Jozo Janda went to the free profession. He exhibited in many major towns in the country, and abroad (1959. Cairo, Alexandria and Khartoum, 1960. Addis Ababa, 1966. Ravenna, 1969. Salzburg, Milan, Verona, Monte Catina, etc.). He painted landscapes, motives of braiding and national connections, homes and interiors of old houses (especially in Istria), the panoramic view of Istrian towns and small coastal towns, harbours ... He was so close to the Expressionists, particularly in landscapes and portraits from Africa, where he stayed between 1958. and 1960. Jozo Janda died in 1999.
