Martin Mehkek was born on August 7, 1936 in village of Novacka, three kilometers away from Gola, in a poor peasant family.
He was the seventh of eight children.
He attended elementary school in Gola.
As he learnt to same extent what was going on in Hlebine around Ivan Generalic, and knowing Ivan Vecenaj of Gola, he decided to paint.
He met Ivan Vecenaj (1954). He painted mostly during winter time when there is not so much to do on the land and at home.
Mehkek’s winters seem to have come out of a story.
The small houses are the part of a fantasy, the same as dominant trees associating various forms and states, knotty and softened by the snow whiteness, as the sparkle on darkened and warm masses of clouds.
Even through a narrowed range of colours Martin Mehkek shows brilliant sensitiveness to colour.
Martin Mehkek died on 1st July 2014.
